Familiar grape varietals like Cabernet, Merlot, or Chardonnay don't find Iowa's climate very hospitable. Many of Iowa's wines are made from grapes that are specially developed for our state's climate (see our Grapes page) unless the fruit or juice is imported from other out-of-state growers.
For that reason, we've made this wines database searchable on the basis on wine style and grape or fruit origin as well as sweetness level, bouquet, and up to two taste terms. This allows you to find those Iowa wines that most satisfy your palate. It's not necessary for you to select a term for each search area. The fewer terms you select, the more general your search will be, and the more terms you select, the more specific your search will be. If your search returns few or no results, try a less specific search by eliminating one or more of your search criteria.

Our version of Zinfandel also contains 10% Malbec. Understated aromas of black fruit, with hints of green pepper, and dried herbs greet your nose as you first meet this wine. On the palate the soft tannins melt to expose deep black fruit notes, cherry and blackcurrant. Cordovan is a well balanced wine with great fruit character showing off all that Zinfandel can be. We believe Cordovan is an excellent wine to be enjoyed by itself however, it could also be delicious...
